Welcome to saywordradio the station that attempts to restore the balance and regain control of black music. From Jazz to Soul to Hip-Hop Black music has been one the most powerful and unifying elements of our survival in conditions in which others would have been destroyed. Recently Black music (Hip-Hop and in some cases R&B) has become co-opted and the very creativity that once empowered has since been turned into a weapon and used against us. Since the mid 1990's when corporate America found out what a cash cow Hip-hop could be, the African-american community has had little control over the messages that get broadcast over the airwaves. Though the majority of rappers are black, the record labels, radio stations and music channels are owned by people who have no stake in broadcasting balanced music.
In order to fight this deliberate attack on our community, SayWordRadio only programs music in the spirit of MAAT; meaning music in balance. On the radio station side we play only REAL Hip Hop and TRUE Soul meaning Hip Hop that's lyrical and diverse in subject matter: Conscious and Gangsta, Old School and New, and Soul Music that is just that; music from the soul.
On the digital distribution side we allow artists whose music doesn't fit into the mainstream formula, to distribute and earn the most profit from their product. Recent events in this country and in this world have shown people of African ancestry in the West that in order to survive we will have to take control of our assets both cultural and financial. Our mission at SayWordRadio is to be one of the main conduits for this. So tune in and let the radio revolution begin!
